The SILCO Chronicles
The Founder of SILCO "The Silver Company Pte. Ltd.", Mr. A. Bari Rushdi, entered the shipping world during the year 1970 as a marine engineering student of the then Maldivian National Trading Corporation, Sri Lanka, now better known as the Maldives National Shipping Limited, Male'. During the last over 30 years, Mr. Rushdi, has made a name for himself and SILCO in international shipping circles. He has emerged as the major shareholder and the Managing Director, of the company, and representing several international shipping lines in the Maldives.

Over these past years he has concentrated all his efforts on an honorary basis towards improving and modernizing services and facilities at the port of Male'. His vision was to see that the Maldives Ports Authority benefited economically while rendering international standards of service to all the shipping companies and their principles that came calling at Maldivian ports. This, he felt would promote more competitive container traffic coming in to the country.
Mr. Rushdi is also a Director of the Board of Maldives Ports Authority.

His efforts have been borne fruit and today, several container shipping lines have come forward to include Male' in their network of ports for their trade in this region. Newer avenues for continued and sustained trade have been opened due to Mr. Rushdi's tireless efforts especially over the past decade.

Today SILCO with its streamlined infrastructure and modern facilities is facilitating speedy container traffic while making break-bulk vessel handling more efficient. At the same time ensuring that the country's development in shipping also make rapid strides.
